On 5 February 2026, the residency training development day “When Digital Meets Clinical in Residency Training: Challenges and Solutions” took place in Tartu, focusing on improving the quality of specialist training for the next generation of doctors and on the integration of digital solutions in residency education. The international conference was organized by the University of Tartu Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and was held at V Spa & Conference Hotel, bringing medical education experts and practitioners to the university city from Estonia and neighbouring countries.
The event gathered representatives from leading medical faculties in Finland, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as all Estonian residency training bases. Presentations and discussions addressed the development of supportive learning environments for residents, the quality of supervision, and the role of digital tools in clinical training. International perspectives were shared by several recognized experts, including Fedde Scheele from Amsterdam University Medical Centre and Ilze Grope from Riga Stradiņš University.
The programe also included expert discussions and a podcast recording that explored teaching in time-critical clinical situations. In addition to the conference itself, related meetings focused on strengthening cooperation between universities and residency training institutions and on discussing future developments in residency education.
International conferences and professional meetings of this kind contribute to Tartu’s development as a recognized science and conference destination and support the city’s growing role as a center for medical education and international collaboration in the Baltic region.
