The unique food experiences of Tartu County come from its surrounding waters, forests, and fields. Its location between two beautiful lakes, Lake Võrtsjärv and Lake Peipus, and on the shores of the Emajõgi River with its rich abundance of aquatic life, has always brought fish to the local table. The forests have provided us with a rich harvest of mushrooms and berries, and the golden fields have yielded high quality grains. After all, the best raw ingredients are the basis of good food.

Throughout the year, you can enjoy more than 100 exciting food events as part of the Tartu County Culinary Region program. You can explore all the events through the Tartu and Southern Estonia Events Webpage.

Expect a wide range of experiences, from vibrant festivals and fairs to hands-on workshops and food tastings. You’ll have the chance to join in on home café days in different districts and villages, as well as events hosted by local restaurants and food producers.

And remember, every meal out is a bit of a food event in itself – as the best chefs of Tartu County serve up delicious dishes made with fresh, local ingredients.

Rich food culture and long history

Innovation in food culture and production began in the days of the Hanseatic League, when the region became a melting pot for the world’s flavours and the knowledge gained from travellers found its way into local recipes. To this day, teaching and research of a practical nature has helped to create a number of innovative food and drink businesses, exciting cuisines, and speciality restaurants in Tartu County.

Tartumaa joogitootjad pälvisid tunnustust konkursil „Parimad Eesti Joogid 2025“ 🏆

15. novembril kuulutas Sommeljeede Assotsiatsioon Kultuurikatlas (Festival Maitsev Eesti) välja konkursi „Parimad Eesti Joogid 2025“ tulemused. Osales 217 jooki 57 tootjalt ja parimad selgitati pimedegustatsioonidel.

Tunnustuse said:

– kuldse, hõbedase ja pronksise diplomi ja märgiga tunnustatud joogid mitmes õllekategoorias
