The University of Tartu Botanical Garden will host the Bird Jam on June 6 at 7 p.m. The concert will feature musicians and poets performing works inspired by birds – whether it is an interpretation of birdsong in words or music.
The concert performance organized by the University of Tartu Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden on June 6 encourages people to pay attention to birds and urban nature. Historically, the appreciation of nature has gone hand in hand with traditional culture – writers, musicians and poets have drawn a lot of inspiration from birds.
This year, musicians Mari Kalkun, Mick Pedaja and midnight may will perform at Linnujämm. Meisterjaan, who interweaves the voices of birds and the sounds of nature with live electronics, will also to take the stage.
“For the last three years, the Bird Festival has been held in the premises of our good partner Lodjakoda/ Barge Yard, but this year we are flying back to our home nest – the Botanical Garden. We are very excited that dancers have been included in the concert for the first time. Four dancers from the Lemoot Company will be performing the birds of this year’s Bird Festival: a cormorant, a white-tailed eagle, a blue tit and a lesser spotted woodpecker,” said Carlotta Põdra, the main organizer of the Bird Festival and soloist of midnight may.
This year, the Bird Festival poetry slam was held for the first time, where anyone interested could submit a poem centered on the birds of this year’s Bird Festival. Over 100 poems were submitted to the competition, and in addition to the financial prize, the winners of the poetry competition have the opportunity to perform at the Bird Festival. The poetry competition was organized by the University of Tartu Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden in cooperation with literary magazine Värske Rõhk, which will award a special prize to a young writer as part of the poetry competition.
The Linnujämm/ Bird Jam will take place on June 6 at 7 pm in the Botanical Garden of the University of Tartu. Tickets are available at Fienta.
The event is part of the Loodusloovusfestival, which will take place from June 6 to 8.
