Tartu city

ROHE hostel is an excellent choice for cycling enthusiasts – it features both a separate, locked bike house with video surveillance and an indoor bike room. Up to 70 bikes can be stored safely, making it suitable even for larger groups. The location allows for an easy and convenient start to your ride, whether you’re heading into the city centre, exploring nature, or taking part in a race.
Hugo Apartment Hotel is ideal for both small cycling groups and larger parties, offering secure storage for up to 44 bikes. There’s an outdoor rack for 24 bikes in front of the building and a locked indoor room for 20 more. The location is perfect for discovering Tartu – from here, it’s easy to reach the Emajõgi riverside promenade, Town Hall Square, Raadi Park, and the Estonian National Museum.
Hektor Design Hostel is another popular choice among cyclists. The comfortable hostel has a secure indoor bike room accessible only to guests and monitored by security cameras. It fits up to 20 bikes, with an additional outdoor rack for 10 near the main entrance. Just 300 metres away is the Riia Street cycling overpass, a safe and spacious route that connects several areas of Tartu. The hostel offers easy access to sightseeing spots, bike paths, and sports facilities.
Barclay hotel, located in Tartu’s Old Town, is a great option for those who want to explore the city and its surroundings by bike. Bicycles can be stored either inside the hotel or in the courtyard building, with space for up to 20 bikes in total. Thanks to its central location, it’s easy to reach many of the city’s main attractions by bike.
Hotel Sophia offers secure bike storage in a locked indoor luggage room with 24-hour access. Located next to the Lõunakeskus shopping centre and along Riia Street, the hotel provides convenient cycling connections to both the city centre and more distant areas.
Hansa hotel is situated close to the city centre and offers secure indoor storage for up to 16 bikes. Its location makes it easy to set off by bike – whether you’re heading to the Emajõgi river, the Old Town, or further afield.
Aleksandri hotel is located in the city centre and makes a convenient stop for cyclists. Bicycles can be stored in the garage, which holds around 15 bikes. From here, it’s easy to access the Emajõgi riverfront and various cycling routes across the city.
Eha Suija homestay is a great option for smaller groups. Bikes can be stored in the garage, which fits 6–7 bicycles. One bike is also available for rent on site for those interested.
Tartu county

Tartu County Recreational Sports Centre is the finish line of the Tartu Mountain Bike Marathon. The centre’s hostel, along with its camping cabins, summer houses, and caravan park, is just a short walk from Elva and a 20-minute drive from Tartu. If needed, there’s space for a couple of hundred bikes, which can be stored either in the bike shed or indoors. Mountain bikes and fatbikes are also available for rent on site.
Palu Recreation Centre, located in Nõo municipality, is another excellent choice for larger cycling groups. A locked indoor storage space can hold up to 200 bikes, and the centre can accommodate up to 50 overnight guests. The surrounding area is great for cycling – ideal for training, touring, or organising bike camps.
Tedreküla Dryer Guesthouse is located near Kallaste, about 45 km from Tartu. The accommodation is set in a 100-year-old barn with a lockable door, perfect for cycling groups looking for a peaceful stay in nature. It sleeps up to 10 people and offers three separate storage rooms for bikes, each fitting 20–25 bicycles. There’s also space for camping and parking. The site is easily accessible via the Tartu–Aovere–Kallaste–Omedu road.
Vehendi motel is located right along lake Võrtsjärv cycling route and has been a popular stopover for cycling groups over the years – including groups of 20–40 riders coming from farther afield. Bikes can be stored under a covered outdoor area or, if needed, in a locked indoor space. The location is excellent for race participants – it’s 18 km to Elva and 35 km to Otepää. The surrounding area offers beautiful cycling routes and scenic lakeside views.
Pansion Hermann, located in Rõngu, offers charming period-style accommodation in a historical building from the Tsarist era. Bicycles can be stored in the foyer, which holds 2–3 bikes. The peaceful setting and nostalgic atmosphere make it a great stop for those looking for a quiet stay in a small and cosy place.
Otepää region
Since several major cycling events pass through or start in Otepää, we’ve also included accommodation options in the Otepää area that warmly welcome cyclists.
Karupesa hotel in Otepää is an ideal choice for those participating in cycling events or training near the Tehvandi Sports Centre. The starting point of the autumn Tartu Mountain Bike Marathon is just about 200 metres from the hotel – right at the Tehvandi Stadium. Cyclists have access to a locked storage room with space for all guests’ bikes. The hotel also offers bike rentals through FanSport. With 30 rooms and 84 beds, it’s a great option for larger sports groups as well.
GMP Clubhotel & Pühajärve restaurant is located right on the shore of Lake Pühajärv, where several cycling and pedestrian trails begin – an ideal location for an active holiday. The hotel offers a secure indoor bike storage space with room for at least one bike per room (more if needed). Kick scooters are available for rent in cooperation with Loodusturism.

Ugandi hotel is located right next to the Tehvandi Sports Centre – an ideal spot for those coming to train or take part in cycling events. The Tartu Marathon trail begins just outside the door, and the surrounding landscapes invite you to explore both by bike and on foot. A separate indoor storage room is available for bikes and other sports equipment, ensuring a safe and secure place for guests’ gear.
Kuutsemäe holiday resort is well-suited for both small and larger cycling groups. The complex includes eight holiday houses, each with accommodation for eight people. Bikes can be stored inside the houses, or for larger groups, separate storage can be arranged in the main building. Up to 60 bikes can be stored, and 20 electric bikes are available for rent and can be delivered to Kuutsemäe from Munaka Bikepark with advance booking. The Tartu Marathon cycling trails are very close, and can be reached safely via quiet roads or sports trails.
Murimäe wine cellar is known for its delightful flavours – but it also caters to cyclists! Bikes can be stored in a secure outdoor rack, and accommodation is available with 5 places in a guest apartment and 8 in glamping tents. Murimäe is located 15 km from Otepää and 50 km from Tartu.
Major Cycling Events in the Region
Every early summer, Tartu once again becomes a true cycling mecca – it’s time for the legendary Tartu Rattaralli (Tartu bike rally)! With a proud history, this road cycling event starts and finishes in Tartu and takes riders through the beautiful and varied landscapes of Southern Estonia. The longest route, 131 km, is part of the international a UCI Gran Fondo World Series. The cycling festival also includes popular children’s races, known as the world’s largest cycling event for kids.
The off-road and gravel biking season culminates in autumn with the Tartu rattamaraton (Tartu Mountain Bike Marathon)! This event brings the joy of movement to cycling fans of all ages and fitness levels, with thousands of riders taking part each year. The main distances – 126 km, 86 km, 40 km, and 21 km – lead participants along scenic gravel and forest roads in South Estonia. The route is technically non-demanding and largely follows the famous Tartu Marathon trail, making it well-suited for gravel bikes too. This year’s Tartu Mountain Bike Marathon will also feature a new challenge – a 126 km gravel distance, created especially for gravel bike enthusiasts.
In Estonia, cycling-related activities are coordinated by the Estonian Cyclists’ Union, which manages and promotes eight disciplines: road cycling, track cycling, mountain biking, BMX racing and freestyle, cyclo-cross, trials, and indoor cycling. In Tartu, a great way to explore the city by bike is through the bike share system , which is perfect for short rides. The system includes more than 750 bikes and 100 bike stations.
