The third project partner meeting took place in La Rochelle, France. Over two days, on March 18–19, discussions focused on innovative solutions, policy insights, and best practices for integrating sustainable development into tourism strategies. The core aim of the project is to ensure long-term environmental, social, and economic benefits for participating regions.
The Tourism4SDG project began in April 2024 and will run until June 2028.

The meeting was hosted by the Communauté d’Agglomération de La Rochelle. The event began at the TRIBORD Sailing Lab, with discussions centered on La Rochelle’s commitment to carbon neutrality and sustainable tourism. Local tourism stakeholders shared their experiences with responsible tourism and highlighted the role of sustainable venues such as Les Cabanes Urbaines, as well as the impact of short-term rentals.
Participants were introduced to La Rochelle’s sustainable tourism vision during a reception at the City Hall, where they were welcomed by Mayor Jean-François Fountaine. The evening featured regional traditions and a tasting of the local specialty, Cognac Normandin Mercier. The day concluded with a study visit to Chantier des Francofolies, focusing on the sustainability of cultural festivals. The visit was led by Emilie Yakich, who emphasized the importance of reducing the environmental impact of large-scale events while promoting local culture.
The meeting was attended by representatives from SA Tartumaa Turism, the City of Tartu, and Kastre Municipality, who gained valuable insights into best practices to help further develop environmentally responsible tourism models in Tartumaa.
