On Saturday, May 17, Ilmatsalu Home Café Day “Trails of Taste” will open cafes in addition to Ilmatsalu also in Kandiküla, Haage, Rahinge, and Pihva and Tüki villages.
In total, 12 home cafés await visitors, and a common trading area, the Ilmatsalu Village Café, will be opened in the park in the middle of Ilmatsalu township.
In addition, Tartu Agro will organize an exhibition of heavy agricultural machinery in the parking lot at Pargi tee 1, Ilmatsalu and will also talk about the “soul” of agricultural machinery.
On the first floor of the Ilmatsalu Hobby Center, a women from the local handicraft circle will organize an exhibition sale of their needlework. The leaders of the Home Café Day are the entrepreneurial Ilmatsalu women – Eve Tõnisson, Kaisa Martinfeld, Triinu Värno, who organized the first community event, the Ilmatsalu Yard Sale Day, last fall.
“It makes me happy that the local people have come along with our ideas this time. In addition to private individuals, local institutions will also join in on the day of the cafés – Ilmatsalu kindergarten and youth centre, library, Loku lake village society, Kandiküla Training Centre,” said Eve Tõnisson. “And of course it’s great that the home cafés will also be in Rahinge, Haage, Kandiküla and Tüki and Pihva villages. This is a great opportunity for all Tartu residents to get to know their hometown surroundings more!”
In addition to locally prepared delicacies, the home cafés offer other enjoyable pastimes – you can listen to folk type of accordion, see farm animals and a rally car, take part in Zumba training and almost all cafés offer various activities for children. At noon, the children’s favourite pony Zimba will also arrive at the Ilmatsalu Village Café, and the JJ-Street dance groups will show off their fastest moves at the youth centre.
“We really hope that there will be enough visitors and that people will come to enjoy the good food and good company and everything else on offer,” the organizing team is hopeful.
All visitors to the cafes are also welcome to participate in the Cafe Day BINGO, where by making a purchase at each cafe or participating in the activities there, you can collect stamps and later participate in the raffle. The Cafe Day will end in the Ilmatsalu motel cafe, where the day will be summed up and the Eurovision final concert will be watched together. The evening event starts at 19:00 and is free for everyone.

The Põlva Tarbijate Ühistu, whose store is located in Märja, Tartu Mill, Ilmre and VSpa, Nurmiko Hulgi, Büroomaailm and Pakendikeskus have all contributed. We have also had pleasant cooperation with Photopoint and Pixelprint,” said Tõnisson.
