New painting exhibition in the Botanical Garden

On August 4, the painting exhibition “Hingevõitlus / Soul Struggle” was opened in the workshop room of the University of Tartu Botanical Garden. The exhibition of Ivan Savatejev, a young creative person from Tallinn, will be open until September 22.

The author of the exhibition, Ivan Savatejev, is a 24-year-old young man of Seto origin from Tallinn who, in addition to painting, plays various instruments, such as the accordion and the karmoška. “Art came into my life when I was a teenager, and I have been inspired mainly by meditation and the beauty of nature,” says the artist. In Ivan’s paintings, his state of mind is expressed at the moment when the brush is in hand, and you never know what will end up on the canvas. “Art is born in the eyes of the beholder! I see and depict one thing in the painting, but another person sees and interprets in a different way,” adds Ivan.

As Ivan describes his work, every painting in the “Hingevõitlus / Soul Struggle” exhibition depicts the emotion and state of the moment. “The paintings are very different, like our lives – sometimes flowery, sometimes gray and complicated,” he says. As a young man, Ivan was influenced by several artists, whose works seemed mystical to him. “I thought why not try it myself – I’m a good mystic myself,” recalls Ivan.

Most of the paintings in the exhibition are created with oil paints, but the artist has also used mixed media, including acrylic, industrial and spray paints.

Ivan Savatejev’s exhibition is open for viewing in the University of Tartu Botanical Garden from August 4 to September 22. The exhibition is located in the workshop room of the botanical garden greenhouse and can be visited during the opening hours of the greenhouse with a ticket.
