On Thursday, 20 March at 5 PM, the Leather Design Department of Pallas UAS will open an exhibition entitled “Take Care of Your Leather”, which focuses on the value of leather as a material.
Leather is a special material: unique, versatile, genuine. It has been someone’s real skin, someone’s closest and dearest. It has to be treated responsibly: to be made into something that the new owner will love and cherish ̶̶̶̶̶ just like they take care of their own skin.
The items in the exhibition halls seek to give the material as long and valuable a life as possible. The objects here are not just aesthetically pleasing, but also functional and meaningful. The authors aim not only to create a visually appealing design, but also to give new meaning to the material, taking into account the social, cultural and economic impact of the creative sector.
“To move forward, you have to look back, which is why today we continue to go to expeditions into the past, to learn from our ancestors’ practicality and to keep alive old trades, symbols and meanings. At a time when all the global information is at our fingertips, a journey of discovery inwards, or backwards through human generations, is still a timeless alternative,” say the participants in the exhibition.
For all those interested, a workshop and curators’ tour will be held as part of the exhibition’s public programme on 12 April from 1 to 3 PM.
