On 5 December at 18.00, the exhibition 107 visions of Siuru will open at the Gallery Pallas in Tartu, where it will be possible to view the entries submitted to the International Architecture Competition for the Siuru Cultural Centre.
With this exhibition, the City of Tartu wishes to recognise the architects who took part in the architectural competition, who invested their time and energy to find the best solution for the Cultural Centre.
According to Tartu City Architect Jiri Tintera, the submitted entries provide good insight into the mindset of a generation of Estonian architects. They serve as an excellent illustration of the perceptions of contemporary architects regarding the idea of what constitutes good space, the spatial problems facing society, and the options for resolving those problems.
A majority of the authors of competition entries are unknown because the competition was anonymous and, according to the rules of the competition, envelopes containing the names of the authors were opened only for the winning entries.
The architectural competition, which took place in 2023, was very popular. A total of 107 works were received by the deadline, of which 102 were accepted for evaluation. The EUR 150,000 prize fund was divided among six competition entries, with an additional two works being highlighted. The competition was won the joint work by 3+1 Architects and Kino Landscape Architects titled Paabel.
The architectural competition was organised by the City of Tartu in cooperation with the Estonian Association of Architects.
The exhibition will be open at the Pallas Gallery (Riia 11) until 4 January 2025, Tuesday through Saturday, from 11–18. The gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
