The third week of December brings a wealth of musical experiences to Tartu’s Christmas City, with performances by Sebastian Jasinski and Voldemar Kuslap. In the days leading up to the fourth Advent, the Santa Winter Games will take place, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the Advent candle and the final light shows.
Tomorrow, December 18, Tartu Youth Work Centre invites all young people to the Town Hall Square to celebrate the festive season. At 5 PM, the South Estonia Dog Centre will visit with their four-legged friends, offering insights into the breeding and raising of pedigree dogs. At 6 PM, Sebastian Jasinski, a participant from the ninth season of Estonia’s Got Talent, will perform a solo concert at the stage pavilion. Also at 6 PM, a free skating lesson will take place at the ice rink.
On Thursday, December 19, at 10 AM, the final Elf School of the season will be held with Lotte. Over 30 minutes, Lotte will share fun tips and train little elves in time for Christmas Eve. Registration is open until all spots are filled.
That same evening at 6 PM, the Christmas City will transform into a true cabaret club, featuring the legendary Voldemar Kuslap performing with accordionist Martin Trudnikov. The concert is free for everyone, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
On Saturday, December 21, from 10 AM to 12 PM, the Sõltumatud Päkapikud (Independent Elves) of the Tartu Motorcycle Club will spread holiday greetings and hand out candies. From 4 PM to 6 PM, Santa Claus will greet children at the stage pavilion.
The morning of the fourth Advent begins at 11 AM with a free skating lesson. At 2:45 PM, get ready on Küüni Street for the Santa Clauses’ parade, which departs from Tartu Kaubamaja and heads to the Town Hall Square. Following the parade, enjoy the beloved Santa Winter Games, accompanied by dancing, merriment, and, of course, well-known Christmas tunes.
At 6 PM, the fourth Advent candle will be lit in the Christmas City, with greetings from Deputy Mayor Raimond Tamm and Pastor Ants Tooming from the Tartu Peetri Congregation. The ceremony will begin with the light show “Toward the Stars”, blending astronomical perspectives with Estonian mythological beliefs about stars. This special holiday spectacle will be repeated at 7 PM and 8 PM.
The cafés in Christmas City – Däp, Päkapiku Puhvet, and Humala Jõulukohvik – are open Monday to Thursday from 4 PM to 9 PM, Friday from 4 PM to 10 PM, and Saturday to Sunday from 10 AM to 10 PM.
