Tartu Old Anatomical Theatre
The anatomical theatre, which served as a workplace for many famous doctors and scientists in the 19th century, was completed in 1805 on the southern slope of Toome Hill, Tartu, at the site of the former Swedish-era Carl Gustav bastion. It was originally designed by Johann Wilhelm Krause as a neoclassical rotunda. In 1825-1827, semicircular wing buildings were added to the building according to Krause's design. The anatomical theatre acquired its present shape after the last major extension was completed between 1856 and 1860.
Medical Collections of the Medical Faculty of the University of Tartu are available at Science Centre AHHAA.
