This year, on August 10, the 14th Literary Festival of the Juhan Liiv Museum is entitled “An Estonian in Every Port”. This time, the focus is on works where people from Estonia perform some task in the far corners of the world.

According to Mari Niitra, director of the Juhan Liiv Museum, the story will be about Piret Jaaks‘s novel “Taeva tütred / Daughters of Heaven”, which is based on the fearless action of Anna Hedvig Büll, a missionary from Haapsalu, in saving Armenian children from the genocide. The same period, from the beginning of the 20th century in Manchuria, is also spoken about by Rein Raud‘s novel “Katkurong / Plague Train”. Paavo Matsin, in turn, sends Estonian literary classics to modern European cities in the book “Death Cafe”. Epp Petrone will talk about the phenomenon of the travel books of the “Minu / My” series, and Urmas Vadi about his latest novel “Kuu teine pool / The other side of the moon”.

Mihkel Kunnus and Mari Niitra talk to the authors. The title of writer of the year will also be awarded.

In turn, DJ and poet Martin Daysleeper Oja connects Estonians in each port for a musical world tour.

The festival will present Juhan Liiv’s new collection of journalism and criticism “Vulise ojakene rohkem”, in which the poet, who worked as a journalist in his youth, reveals himself as a sharp-eyed publicist who is well versed in Estonian society and what is happening in the wider world. The book was prepared by researcher Tanar Kirs of the Liiv Museum and published by the Liiv Museum.
