Starting this Sunday, November 30, you can participate in Advent mornings at the Tartu Toy Museum, where you can make Christmas decorations and gifts for the upcoming holiday season.
In the cozy Christmas room, you can do crafts, play with family and friends, and dream about Santa Claus knocking on your door soon under the decorated Christmas tree. If you don’t have enough homemade gifts, you can find small and large packages for the elves and Santa’s gift bag in the museum shop.
The museum’s bears, dolls, and rocking horses have also already set up Christmas trees in their display cases, and you can get acquainted with Christmas decorations from a hundred years ago near the oldest toys. In addition, the exhibition “Feathered with Superpowers” is open in the main building of the museum, which displays 80 different toy owls from the collection of Ly Soosaar, a native of Tartu. In the mysterious twilight of the Teatri Kodu, it is possible to meet TV stars – the exhibition “The Greatest Friends on TV” awaits guests with the Wolf Kriimsilm, Tipp and Täpp, the wooden puppet Buratino, Äpu and Postikana and many other childhood favorites.
The Christmas room in the main building of the museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm, and all Sunday Advent workshops can be attended with a regular museum ticket or a Museum Card.
The Tartu Toy Museum is located in the Old Town of Tartu on Lutsu Street and is open all year round from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm. At the end of the year, the museum is closed on 22–26 December, 31 December and 1 January. Additional information about exhibitions, theater performances and workshops can be found at www.mm.ee.
