Tourism4SDG partners met in Poland

Less than 5 months after its inauguration, Tourism4SDG project collaboratives met in Lubelskie Voivodeship on 5 – 6 of February, 2025. The main Conference Day was followed by a day of study visits which provided examples of applying an idea of sustainability into local tourist activities.

The first day started with a welcome from Lubelskie Marshal Office representatives. Next followed a presentation from the Department of Promotion, Sports and Tourism which focused on good practices in terms of local integration and a policy of Development Strategy of the Lubelskie Voivodeship until 2030 with its responsible development model. Then, a presentation by representative of the Travindy Foundation detailed strong and weak points of an analysis on the state of sustainable tourism in Lubelskie region.

Deeper into the meeting, a speech by the project expert focused on key findings on the Lubelskie’s leading inspiration – tourism ecosystem in Spain. On the agenda was an identification of specific priority areas around the regions of Andalusia, Catalonia, Navarra and Valencia. Next, the meeting focused back on Lubelskie brand that realizes the concept of “Slow life” that reconnects local tourists with nature. Representatives of the Roztocze National Park and Zwierzyniec Commune continued by describing the Green Heart of Roztocze Partnership. Excessive seasonality of tourist traffic and unprepared road infrastructure were addressed as current challenges.

6th of February was a busy day of study visits in and around Nałęczów, a city of SPA attractions that used to be regularly frequented by Polish literates. The sites included the Land of Loess Gorges, the Arche Nałęczów “Police SPA” hotel and the Lupine Hill – Healing Village. The Arche Nałęczów was originally built as Militia Sanatorium and it strives to preserve the often fashionable atmosphere of the 80s. It provided site for presentations of Mayor of Nałęczów, “The Land of Loess Gorges” representative and Director of the said hotel. A discussion followed on the measures of controlling and upgrading sustainability levels of the attractions.

Both active days were supplemented by, respectively, a Steering committee on the current issues related to the implementation of the project in terms of communication and management and a Meeting of the Expert Group on Good Practices with a debate on the regional reports and the Polish Good Practices and study visits.
