In the joint competition “Tartu’s Act of the Year 2024” of the Tartu City Government and the Tartu Postimees newspaper, the people of Tartu voted for Tartu 2024, the European Capital of Culture, as the most important event of the year.
At recognition event in the hall of the town hall, Tartu Mayor Urmas Klaas and Tartu Postimees Editor-in-Chief Rannar Raba thanked both the people involved in organizing Tartu 2024, the European Capital of Culture, and other outstanding performers in 2024, whom the people of Tartu highly appreciated in the Act of the Year competition.
According to Mayor Urmas Klaas, the result of the Act of the Year competition showed that the year of the Capital of Culture, with its program and message, was a success for the people of Tartu. “I would like to thank all the hundreds of cultural organizers from Tartu and Southern Estonia who organized over 1,600 diverse events, the Tartu 2024 Foundation and the large audience. Although this wonderful year of the Capital of Culture title has now officially ended, I am sure that the impact of this largest joint project of all time in Southern Estonia will continue for years to come.”

Nearly 5,500 voters participated in the selection of the event of the Act of the Year on the website of the city of Tartu and the website of Tartu Postimees.
The Tartu Act of the Year was selected for the 27th time under the leadership of the Tartu City Government and Tartu Postimees. Previous acts of the year can be found here.

The city government’s gift was given to: Signe Hint, Helin Pihlap, Liisi Erepuu, Kristo Saarna, Johann Mattias Puuorg, Hanna Veensalu, Varje Kivila, Kadri Kaljurand, Lenne Jalajas and Aino Maller.
A book published by Postimees Publishing House was given as a gift to: Õie Mikk, Ene Kaart, Helju Maaring, Aili Mõru, Silvi Mihklisaar, Heli Ilumets, Aleksander Lepik, Kalju Nööri, Viive Uue and Andželika Metsva.
The gifts can be collected on weekdays from the information center on the first floor of Tartu Town Hall.
