On January 24th at 4:00 PM, Dr. Matthias Donath will present an English-language lecture titled “The Kügelgen Story. A Baltic German Family Reflects European History” at the Tartu City Museum (Narva mnt 23).
The Kügelgen family’s history reflects the history of Eastern and Central Europe. In his lecture, Dr. Matthias Donath will focus on the events of the 19th and 20th centuries: during this time, the Kügelgen family was remarkably mobile, moving between Estonia, Germany, and Russia. The family included the artist brothers Gerhard and Carl Kügelgen, as well as journalists, educators, doctors, writers, inventors, and others.
Dr. Matthias Donath is a historian and exhibition curator who, together with his colleague Lars-Arne Dannenberg, developed the concept for an exhibition about the Kügelgen family. This exhibition has previously been displayed in Lüneburg, Dresden, and Tallinn.
An hour later, at 5:00 PM, art historian Anne Untera will lead a curator’s tour of the exhibition “The Kügelgens: The Story of a Baltic German Family”. The tour will be conducted in Estonian.
The lecture and curator’s tour are part of the public program for the exhibition “The Kügelgens: The Story of a Baltic German Family”, which is open from January 24th to April 27th.
