Estonia’s largest open-air cinema in Tartu

On the evening of August 5, a 128-square-meter screen was blown up in front of the Tartu town hall – the BNFF love film festival Tartuff was kicked off.

As the opening film, the Greek director Yorgos Zois’s mystery “Arcadia” hit the screen of Estonia’s largest, thousand-seat open-air cinema, followed by Sander Maran’s musical horror comedy “The song of the chainsaws”.

The film was presented by its authors Kaur and Peeter Maran, Jan Andresson, Janno Puusepp, Elsa Levo, Kadri Kuusler and Ra Ragnar and Henryk Johan Novod.

Despite the gloomy weather, the films brought together almost a thousand viewers.

A special photo wall created by Tartu artist Stina Leek was also ready for the beginning of the festival – everyone who wanted could add something to it as they wished.

Tartuff continues tonight at 22:00 and 23:59 when Brazilian director Marcelo Gomes’ melodrama “Portrait of a Certain Orient” and Egyptian director Abu Bakr Shawky’s adventure drama “Hajjan”, set in the world of camel racing in Saudi Arabia, will be screened on the big open-air screen respectively.

All festival sessions are for free.

BNFF’s 19th love film festival Tartuff runs until August 10.
