Concert of California Youth Symphony Orchestra

Now completing its 66th season, the California Youth Symphony has established a reputation as one of the outstanding youth orchestra programs in the United States and its alumni number in the thousands. In 1963 the California Youth Symphony became the first American youth orchestra to tour overseas when it accepted an invitation to tour Japan. Although originally established as a single symphony orchestra, the organization has grown dramatically in recent years and now offers eight programs, covering all symphonic instruments, for young musicians ages 8 to 18. Total enrollment is approximately 500. Among its many awards the organization won first prize at the International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna in 1994. The current tour is the orchestra’s first visit to the Baltics and Russia and its 22nd international tour overall
